Scarlett Johansson recently opened up about how she avoided being labeled as a “bombshell” actress and transitioned her acting career accordingly. In an interview on the Table for Two podcast, the Black Widow star discussed her teenage years and reflected on her experience filming Lost in Translation and Girl with a Pearl Earring, describing it as a “weird fever dream”. Johansson revealed that she faced several challenges during the production of Lost in Translation and felt objectified by others, which made her feel like an ingénue. She also shared that at 18-19 years old, she was still discovering her own sexuality and womanhood, but got stuck due to the trajectory of her early career.

During an interview, Scarlett Johansson opened up about feeling trapped in the early days of her career. She explained that she was pressured to portray a specific type of actor – the “bombshell” – which meant that she was often cast as the other woman or object of desire. However, Johansson credits her turnaround to Creative Artists Agency partner and co-chairman Bryan Lourd. She acknowledges that it would have been easy to continue down the same path, but she realized that being a “bright and quick” bombshell could limit her opportunities.
